The International Fur Federation Opens Applications for the 14th Annual Global Fur Design Competition Remix

The International Fur Federation (IFF) has announced that they will be opening online applications for its global design competition REMIX  2018, supported by VOGUE Talents, from 11th September.

REMIX was introduced in 2003 – the brainchild of the IFF – to support the next generation of designers as they develop and explore their relationship with fur. The competition gives up-and-coming design talent from across the globe an opportunity to showcase their innovative designs to a highly influential, international audience and to receive global exposure across a range of traditional and online media channels.

A shortlist of 10 designers will be selected and invited to Milan during the city’s AW18 fashion week to participate in the REMIX grand finale, where the final judging will take place based on a runway presentation. Each designer will show three looks that include fur garments and accessories as well as other non-fur items so that fur is seen as part of an overall look as it is in the real world.

The winner of REMIX 2018 will be awarded an all-expenses paid trip to visit the North American Fur Association (NAFA), including a tour of its studio, as well as having their winning garments used as part of the IFF’s global fashion campaign FUR NOW.

Mark Oaten, CEO, IFF said: “REMIX 2018 will be one of the biggest yet, so we urge young and new designers around the globe to enter and see if they can reach the final in Milan and the chance to enhance their careers.”

Over 1,000 students from more than 25 countries have taken part in the competition since its inception 14 years ago. Previous finalists and winners include Astrid Anderson, a regular at London men’s fashion week; Nicolas Martin Garcia, menswear designer for Roberto Cavalli; Thom Barends, product designer for Haider Ackermann; Sally Bohan, senior designer for Patagonia; and Roderick Buijs, menswear and womenswear designer at Louis Vuitton.

Mark Oaten concludes: “The level of talent we have seen over the years at REMIX always astounds me. To see creative minds from around the world come together to demonstrate their impeccable skills is vital to keeping the industry fresh and innovative. REMIX has and will continue to push the boundaries of our industry and help change the perceptions of fur.”

To be eligible for REMIX 2018, designers must either currently be in education or have graduated within the last four years. Designers must also seek approval from the fur trade association of their respective country.
